For the ignorant person asking the std question. If you have HIV or AiDS, that shit is in your blood. You go and get a tattoo, which is done by needles piercing the skin, therefore causing you to bleed and hence the blood gets on the needle. They dont clean the needle right and someone else goes and gets a tattoo using the same needle. Consequently, the infected blood of the precious customer is getting intermixed with the current one, the disease travels thrpugh her blood system. BAM! She has AIDS.

do we need to show some kind of proof that it has been one year since we got the tattoo done?
do we need to show some kind of proof to the doctors to whom we go to donate blood?

I actually started reading this article because I registered to donate blood yesterday. I'm in Australia, donating through Red Cross, and they told me it would be a 6mnth wait before I could donate. I did ask the lady why, and all she told me was "It used to be a 12mnth wait, but now the wait is 6mnths" Not very helpful.

I got my tattoo done at a very sterile facility, so there will be no chance of infection. But I can understand why they have to wait 6 months.

To be tested for diseases such as Hep and HIV, you have to wait a certain time frame (not sure exactly how long, but I think approx 3 months). After getting the tattoo, I'm thinking the blood collectors will want me to wait for 6 months, so after I donate they can test my blood to see if it comes up positive to any of these infections.

I just feel bad about having to wait so long. I turned 18 8months ago, and have been meaning to register to donate, and I saw an ad that said they required type O (that's me!) and now I have to wait so long...

And to r0cK$t@r $k@tEr999: The ink from the tattoo does not affect your blood in any way, shape or form.

Good to hear that I can still donate blood... I has been a part of my life donating blood. Aside from its benefits for my body I can still help save lives. Thank you for the clarification. :-)

Hello Lisa,
Thank you very much for that clarification. Is there some kind of verfication required to show that the tattoo was done in a licenced facility?
